The workplace trainer is an essential part of how MAST supports the marine and specialised technologies industries. When working and studying for their apprenticeship guidance is needed from that person within the business to support the learning and to provide insight into questions the apprentice may have.  In some cases, this could be the supervisor but in others it is a colleague with the technical skills and attitude to take the young person on the journey to be a successful trades person.

MAST sees the workplace trainer as the lynch pin to completing a successful apprenticeship and have therefore developed an easy to give the mentor/supervisor the skills they might need to guide the apprentice along the way. Having a strong learning culture will help you attract and retain staff.

The online module covers:

  • Communication

  • The importance and benefits of training

  • The importance and benefits of having a strong training culture

  • What is training, mentoring and supervising

  • How to be supportive of the training journey

  • How to ask questions

Complete the module and gather a couple of attestations and you be complete and become a MAST accredited workplace trainer. MAST will provide free upskilling sessions each year once you have completed the module as we want to champion these workplace trainers/mentors.
