A Taste of Marine Trades
Whether you’re just starting out or considering a career change, this pre-trade course gives you the chance to explore different parts of the marine trades in a practical, workshop-based setting.
The training includes strands in:
Boatbuilding – Use timber, alloy and other materials while learning the tools and techniques used to build boats. Gain experience in cutting, shaping, and assembling components for both traditional and modern boatbuilding methods.
Composite Technologies – Learn to prepare materials, blend resins and apply techniques used in the composite industries. Understand how these materials are used in marine and industrial applications, ensuring quality and durability in every project.
Marine Systems – Gain insight into how engine components are assembled, tested, and maintained. Learn the processes behind system diagnostics, troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
Throughout the course, you will be introduced to potential employers, giving you the chance to gain further experience, build networks and understand industry expectations.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills, hands-on experience and confidence to launch your career and pursue apprenticeship opportunities in the marine trades.

You must be legally eligible to study in New Zealand (residents and citizens only). Applicants must be at least 16 years old. English language proficiency requirements apply.
