Early this year, Ovlov Marine became the first company to receive the Icehouse Leadership Award at the MAST Graduation.
Led by Lachlan Trembath, Ovlov Marine has long championed capability development across the marine industry – from technical skills through to leadership growth. For Lachlan, it all starts in the workplace.
“When looking at employing staff, we realise candidates come with a similar skill mix – automotive, heavy diesel, small engines”, he says. “So we found that by training our own staff, we can build the exact versatile skillset we require for our workshops.”
Through MAST leadership training, supplier programmes and professional development, Ovlov continues to build confident leaders within the team. “The extra skill development is something we’re always looking for – an option to keep growing our staff”, says Lachlan. “On top of that, things such as Boatmaster’s with Coastguard”.
Beyond his own team, Lachlan continues to support the wider industry by opening doors for students through MAST’s Launch it – School to Work programme and industry tours, helping young people discover marine career opportunities.
